Facebook Reflection

Moonsighting Trip, Ramadan 2013: Didn’t see the new moon last night, but I did see community, family, food, people putting their foreheads on the ground in group prayer, children playing, people smiling, people sharing greetings of peace, people laughing, people embracing friends they haven’t seen in a while, people in silent reflection, people gazing at the heavens, people continuing an ancient and Prophetic practice of marking the months through observing the phases of the moon. Staying connected with what is above and below.

It was a humbling surprise to see how this simple -yet profound tradition has grown over the years in my local community from just a couple of people, to the 30+ group I experienced last night, praise God! Looking forward to doing it all over again tonight, God-willing at J.A. Lewis Park in the Hayward Hills.
